Greetings from an EOLD…

An “EOLD” or an End of Life Doula might be new to you. You are not alone. Doulas are companions who serve many purposes, all non-medical, in order to assist you on your specific journey. Sometimes doulas assist parents with the birthing process, sometimes doulas assist families and friends through the end-of-life process of a loved one.

These processes that we all go through in our lives at one time or another are not easy, and can come along suddenly. In the case of death we don’t always have time to prepare, that is, unless we start now! My goal is to begin to have end of life conversations with you well before your end of life is near. Talking openly about your wants and desires near the time of your death is helpful in so many ways. For one, it takes the burden off your loved ones at the time of your death from having to make split decisions, about which they are unsure. For another, taking time to think about your wants and desires at the end of your life can help make the ‘here and now’ of your life even more meaningful, even more engaging.

I understand that contemplating the end of our lives perhaps isn’t popular, or seems morose, and is maybe more than a little scary. You’re also not alone there. But like many challenging things in life, when we meet them head on and ask for a little help, we can overcome our fears. Sometimes we can even walk away with a new approach toward life, a new outlook, a new friend… you just never know. What I do know is that there is power in meeting taboo subjects head on, and I would be honored to do that with you.

Peace be with you.
